Policy Analysis

Setup
None. All data is already inside the system. When you want to begin, simply type a name into the search bar to search for an agency or politician of interest.
Getting Started
The entry point of the site is from the search box. Search for an agency or politician by name and select the name when it appears in the search bar to begin seeing the data. Navigation is based on an account-centric methodology. As you move across the tabs of the site, you are looking at data for whatever account you have searched for inside the search box.
Registering for an Account
Access to data on the site is limited without registering for an account. However, you may search through the site at your leisure before deciding to register for an account and gain access to the full suite of tools and data.
To register for an account, simply click the register button in the upper right hand portion of the screen. To login, click the login button at the top right of each page.
Account Summary Page
After searching for and selecting an account from the search box, you will be directed to the Account Summary page.
Purpose: This section provides a snapshot of some of the data collected on each agency or politician inside the system.
Uses:
- Quickly obtain an overview of the media profile of a politician or agency.
- Track the latest mentions coming from an agency or a politician.
- Monitor the latest social media traction.
Tracking Accounts
You can add any account you want to track in your dashboard by clicking "add this account" where it appears next to the account name.
Purpose: This will provide you direct access to some of the metrics we track from within your dashboard, which comes up after logging into the website. You must be registered and logged into the site to track an account.
Dashboard
Purpose: You can view and manage multiple accounts from inside your dashboard, which contains a variety of features allowing you to keep tabs on your accounts efficiently.
Uses:
- Quickly compare the media performance of accounts you care about side by side.
- Save comparisons you plot on the Charts Section to your dashboard for quick viewing later.
- Every day, a summary email containing the info in your dashboard will be sent to you. You can turn this off inside your dashboard if you choose.
Charts Section
Purpose: This section allows you to plot metrics against one another on a graph, and compare your performance against competitors or peers.
Uses:
- Analyze the performance of various social media accounts, public response to news events, and trending stories.
- Identify the platforms providing the best and worst ROI for marketing efforts.
- Compare performance across multiple accounts and peer group averages.
- Correlate metrics to determine trends.
- Uncover the news drivers for a particular day or period.
You can make annotations (notes) inside the graphs on the Charts Page, but only for accounts you track in your dashboard. You can do this by clicking on a point on the graph and selecting the “add note” option. You can also open a stream of data from that data point. Options on the side of the screen enable you to search within the results and reorder items in the news stream. Up to 50 mentions can be viewed on the charts page; after that you must be inside the Media Mentions section.
Media Mentions Section
Purpose: The mentions section aggregates all mentions on the Web about or from the agency or politician.
Uses:
- Monitor all mentions about an account across 60,000 news outlets and social media sites.
- Track all comments coming from an individual or agency.
- Analyze message uptake by an individual or agency in response to outreach.
- Identify top mentioners, key publications and topics most frequently associated with an account.
- Identify how the public is describing a politician or organization.
Rankings
Purpose: The rankings section compares an organization or person to others like them. We lump similar agencies or people into various peer groups. Rankings are calculated for each metric and peer group every night.
Uses:
- Evaluate the effectiveness of an agency’s or person’s outreach efforts in relation to similar agencies/politicians.
- Assess weaknesses and strengths across various metrics over time.
Leaderboards
Purpose: Leaderboards compare agencies and politicians across an array of metrics we collect.
Uses:
- Identify who’s hot and who’s not across a variety of metrics.
- Identify those doing a better job with their outreach and adopt their best practices.
You can adjust the display of the leaderboards by the metric selected, the date selected, or the category selected from the navigation menu.
Settings
Purpose: Settings can be used to change your login, password or site preferences.
Providing Feedback & Sending Questions
You can send your feedback through the tab at the left marked “Feedback” or via the email us link at the bottom of each page.
Forgot Password/Password Reset
Purpose: To reset your password, click the login button on the top right of the screen. This will bring up the login page. Underneath the login area, click the link that says “Forgot your password” and follow the instructions on the next screen to reset your password.
